Christmas is Coming in 7 Days: A Mind Puzzle

If a day is a week from now, that makes it 7 days away. A week is 7 days. 7 minus 7 is zero.

If I'm on page 16 in a book, and I have to read to page 23, I could take 23 minus 16 to give me 7. So you'd think I have 7 pages to read. But that would be wrong, because I would have 8 pages to read: page 16, page 17, page 18, page 19, page 20, page 21, page 22, and page 23. So what gives?

So how does the week day math work, and the book page one not?

Well, I have to include page 16 in my counting, because I have to read that page still, and 23-16 minuses that page, so I get one page fewer than I should.

Whereas for days, the first paragraph was kind of written to get you off-guard. Because it's not written in the same format as the book page paragraph. If I write it in book page format, I would say that today is the 18th. Christmas is the 25th. So 25 minus 18 is... 7. Wait, what? I got the right answer the first time?

Ah-ha, and that's because there's another difference. When reading pages, we also read page 23. But when counting days, we don't count that last day. On Christmas there are 0 more days until Christmas. On page 23 we still need to read page 23.

So today the 18 there are 7 more days. On Monday there are 6 more days. On Tuesday there are 5 more days. On Wednesday there are 4 more days. On Thursday there are 3 more days. On Friday there are 2 more days. On Saturday there is 1 more day. On Sunday, Christmas, there are 0 more days, because it's arrived.

My puzzle isn't as good as the missing dollar riddle, but then again, no puzzle is.

"Three guests check into a hotel room. The manager says the bill is $30, so each guest pays $10. Later the manager realizes the bill should only have been $25. To rectify this, he gives the bellhop $5 as five one-dollar bills to return to the guests.

On the way to the guests' room to refund the money, the bellhop realizes that he cannot equally divide the five one-dollar bills among the three guests. As the guests are not aware of the total of the revised bill, the bellhop decides to just give each guest $1 back and keep $2 as a tip for himself, and proceeds to do so.

As each guest got $1 back, each guest only paid $9, bringing the total paid to $27. The bellhop kept $2, which when added to the $27, comes to $29. So if the guests originally handed over $30, what happened to the remaining $1?"

My secret project for my brothers is almost done. It should be ready a little before Christmas. Secret secret.

Rick-rolled, Christmas is approaching

So this last Thursday I ended up Rick-rolling my school. We have an announcement board, which is a google slides that all the teachers have access to, which we can put announcements on. I put a link to "Never Gonna Give You Up" but labeled it Important Information for the upcoming state testing. Hahahaha. I know I got 'em because they came up and told me so afterwards. Plus I could just check to see how many views it got. Plus people commented. Here's the link if you want to get Rick-rolled: https://youtu.be/FxIrDOFxuPc

Okay, so my school's Christmas break is... uh... later than usual? The last of school before break is December 23rd. That's right. The day before Christmas Eve. And the first day back is January 9th. Yep. Over a week after New Years. But that's okay, because we're not traveling to Nevada this year. Maybe if we were I'd be like, what the heck? But we're staying here in Mesa so instead I'm like, okay cool bro no problem.

Henry and Joy now know more piano than I do. Heather's a piano teacher and she has lessons at our house. She also teaches Henry and Joy. All of Heather's students have a recital this upcoming Saturday.

Heather and I have Eric for Christmas. Thankfully, he put his Christmas list up on his blog. Alex has us. Alex, if you're reading this, than we want... uh... I don't really need anything except copious amounts of money, but Heather probably knows a lot more than I do what we want.

I'm working on a project. A secret project. A project I'll be giving to my three brothers for Christmas. A project that's taking a lot of time to create. Uh... that's all I'll say about that for now.

This is He

That was Henry. He was writing "This is Henry" in case you were wondering. Although it is pretty funny that Henry shortened like that it looks like it's saying "This is He" which is kinda creepy. Or, I guess, if you were looking for some sort of sign, then, use that, I guess?

Look carefully at this post; there's an important message inside somewhere

Now that it's the 20th, my brother Eric's birthday is today. Happy birthday Eric!

Eric is turning 31. I am 32.  My students keep trying to get me to tell them my age but hahaha I haven't.

Valentine's Day, along with Saint Patrick's Day, are two holidays where we still go to school.

Easter is on a Sunday always so it never hits a school day. Henry was curious about that.

Right now it's near Thanksgiving and Christmas and Veteran's Day, all of which school is out.

Go figure. So I guess it makes sense that Henry would think that all holidays we got school out.

On the other hand, Halloween was on a school day this year. And kids dress up for that.

Never gets old, dressing up for Halloween. Some kids think they're "too old" or some other dumb excuse.

Next year I'm going to dress up again. Not sure as what, though. It'll be something cool though.

A monster with tentacles coming out of its head or something. Or not; that's kind of gross.

Gross costumes aren't really Heather's thing. Or mine. I do like funny/clever costumes.

I made my own costume this year to be funny/clever. A squid with game pieces and a "Squid Game" sign.

Very creative, in my humble opinion. I just need to use that creativity towards something permanent.

Every day I know I should be writing more in my book, but I keep procrastinating.

Yesterday I even had plenty of time to do it, but I didn't write a single word.

Only I am able to do it. It's not like I could pay someone to do it for me.

Unless I could transfer my ideas into their brain. But would that make them... me?

Ugh, I don't understand the idea of individuality. Like, what is my consciousness?

Perhaps one day in the future we can transfer our consciousness into other bodies.

Not that that will happen in my lifetime, but still... and then the question arises: who are you?

Eric I'm sure has had these cool meta thoughts before. Questions about existence, about life.

Very seldomly do I find answers to these questions. But I think memory has a big part to play.

Every person thinks that they are them, and that they are not other people. Why? Memories.

Remember the time when such and such? No? Then that means the person doing it wasn't you.

Great. But I've done many things that I can't remember because my memory is bad.

One person once write a short story called "The Egg" in which every person in history was the same.

Newer, better explanation: after death God reincarnates the one entity somewhere in time.

Near the end of history, that one entity has been every single person. In every single time.

All of history was just the one consciousness interacting with past and future versions of themselves.

Learning. That's what the experience was all about. Becoming something better.

Exactly like the true gospel teaches: that we are here to learn and grow from experiences.

Thankfully I don't have to be every single victim of every single war. Or the people that killed them.

You'd think that it'd be cool, because you'd get to be every rich person ever, but I disagree.

On this earth I think a lot more people have it bad than have it good. I'm satisfied with my life.

Underneath all the hard things, I'm still glad to be me. Living my own individual life.

Don't get me wrong, it'd be nice to be rich, but I'm thankful for what I do have.

Okay, okay, you're probably tired of reading this blog post, and want to know what's so important.

Well, first off, it's a secret code. It's very important that you figure it out. Here it is...

Now go back to the top of this post and put together the first letter of each line.

Mangebia

So for some reason my computer won't let me comment on other people's posts. Which is a shame because I've wanted to and done to do so, but then it says I need to log into my google account but then when I try to it says it can't. Which is weird, because I'm obviously logged in right now or else I wouldn't be able to write this blog post, now would I?

Thanksgiving is coming up. We'll spend it here in Mesa with Heather's side of the family. Christmas too. No plans on traveling this year. I did apply for a Winter break job through my new school.

Speaking of school, classroom management has always been an issue with me. But one of my resolves right now is to do better at it. To expect that the students will follow expectations. I don't want it to be an issue any more.

I'm glad Eric is doing Na-No-Wra-Mo. I should be. I'm just not; working on other projects.

Uh... here's a meme.

Baba is You Level, Halloween costume idea

If any of you own Baba is You and want to check out a level I made the code is 8JJ2-PT6A. I styled it after Legend of Zelda. I was inspired by the birthday gift I made Alex, which was my first attempt to make a Legend of Zelda level in Baba is You.

Yea, my little baby brother is now 22.

Halloween is coming up. I know what I'm going to be: it's what I wanted to be last year but didn't order the costume early enough. It's going to be this:

Only I'm going to add a note in the same vein as these memes:

I'm going to make the squid hold cards and dice and a board and have a sign saying: "Squid Games or something idk I've never watched it."

Pretty good idea, no?

How I'm doing with my Writing

I've made a goal for myself: write at least one sentence a day for my book. (My book meaning The Fallacy of Time, book one in the Temportaiton Trilogy.) This has been a good goal for me. Why? Because it is not overwhelming. If I had made the goal of one chapter a day, it would be completely overwhelming. Or maybe even one paragraph a day would be overwhelming. But one sentence a day? That's it? I could do that.

And I have been. I have been writing at least one sentence a day for my book. And what's cooler is that when I do write a sentence, I also end up writing a whole lot more. Right now I am, hold on let me check... okay I'm back. I'm now on chapter six. The first chapter you read here on this blog, although I changed the name of the main character from Brandon to Andemo. And I've made major revisions to chapter two.

So things are going pretty well with that stuff. Which is good because it means I'm actually working on achieving my goal. And I'm not even to the exciting part in my book yet, so hopefully that will be really fun to write (and to read, later on).

Once I get further into the book I'm going to ask for alpha readers to read it and give me their feedback. Probably the people that are reading this right now. You know who you are. . . . although I might not know because I don't know who's going to read this.
